The Planning Department is responsible for long-range planning, subdivision administration, permitting, inspections and code enforcement.  Building inspections and certificates of occupancy are issued by the Alamance County Inspections Department, while Health Permits are issued by either Guilford or Alamance County depending on the location of the projects.

Planning permits are issued by this office for these reasons:

1. To protect public safety and quality of life
2. To ensure the proposed business is legally allowed in the proposed location
3. To ensure that structural alterations are constructed to meet building code
4. To protect the safety of the utility system

A summary of the permitting process is available at the link below.  Persons seeking a permit should contact the Planning Department for more information.

The Gibsonville Planning Board is a volunteer board appointed by the Aldermen for 3 year terms.  The Planning Board meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Gibsonville Town Hall to discuss re-zonings, ordinance changes and subdivisions.

Comprehensive Pedestrian Plan

The Gibsonville Board of Aldermen approved the 2014 Comprehensive Pedestrian Plan at their June 16, 2014 meeting.

This plan was developed with extensive input from the community, seeks to meet Gibsonville's needs and desires for pleasant, enjoyable and safe places to walk, and reflects the regional collaboration between the Town of Gibsonville, Alamance and Guilford Counties, the Burlington-Graham Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), and other local regional partners.
