Americans With Disabilities Act

The Town of Gibsonville recognizes the need to support Title II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. The Town of Gibsonville will work to protect qualified individuals with disabilities from discrimination on the basis of disability in services, programs, and activities provided by State and local government entities.

The Town of Gibsonville is dedicated to its residents and those who visit. All residents and visitors will be afforded the rights set by local, state, and federal laws. The Town will not discriminate against qualified individuals on the basis of disability in our services, programs, or activities in accordance with ADA requirements.

Employment: Pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA), Titles I and II of the ADA of 1990, and Sections 503 & 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 the Town of Gibsonville, will not discriminate against any employee, or applicant for employment because of a physical or mental impairment with regard to any position for which that person is qualified. The Town is committed to providing access and reasonable accommodation in its services, programs, activities, education, and employment for individuals with disabilities when reasonably possible. Applicants should contact the Town Manager to request disability accommodations in the application process.

Communication: The Town of Gibsonville encourages all citizens to engage in the process of ensuring programs, services, and activities are effectively communicated to qualified persons with disabilities. The Town is committed to involving citizens in the process of resolving issues with people who have disabilities that affect hearing, seeing, speaking, reading, writing, or understanding communication.

Modifications to Policies and Procedures: The Town of Gibsonvillewill make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services, and activities. 

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity of the Town of Gibsonville should contact the office of James Todd, ADA Coordinator as soon as possible but no later than 72 hours before the scheduled event.

The ADA does not require the Town of Gibsonville to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services, or impose an undue financial or administrative burden.

Complaints that a program, service, or activity of the Town of Gibsonville is not accessible to persons with disabilities should be directed to James Todd, ADA Coordinator.

The Town of Gibsonville will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy, such as retrieving items from locations that are open to the public but are not accessible to persons who use wheelchairs.
